What to Wear & Color Ideas for Your Photoshoot

 

Accessories

Keep accessories simple and timeless. Minimal jewelry photographs beautifully and doesn’t distract from your expressions.


Avoid smartwatches or colorful wristbands — they often stand out in photos.

Makeup

A matte base helps control shine (especially outdoors), and makeup can even out the skin while softening imperfections. Just be mindful of areas where product can accumulate or crease, as that can create the opposite effect on camera.


  • Choosing the Right Colors

The colors you choose make a big impact on how your makeup photographs:


Neutrals always win — beiges, browns, taupes, soft pinks, terracotta, and warm nudes photograph beautifully.


Avoid very colorful or bold shadows unless the session is urban and your outfit matches the vibe.


  • Lip Colors

Neutral lips (nude, soft pink, mauve, warm brown) work well for every session.


  • By Skin Tone

Light/Fair skin: soft rose, champagne, beige, light brown, peach.

Medium skin: caramel, bronze, copper, warm browns, terracotta.

Dark skin: rich browns, warm purples, berry tones, gold (subtle, not glittery).

Comfort is key — my photography style involves a lot of movement (walking, spinning, running lightly), so comfortable shoes are essential for natural, beautiful photos.


• Avoid high heels — they limit movement and can feel stiff on camera.

• Choose neutral flats, sandals, boots, or shoes you can walk and move freely in.


• Beach sessions: barefoot always looks best.

• Studio sessions: barefoot or neutral socks create a cozy, timeless feel.

• Stick to soft, neutral tones (beige, tan, brown, white) and avoid bright or patterned shoes that draw attention.


Avoid anything too bright or patterned, as they become distracting in photos.

Tip: When dressing as a couple or family, you don't need to wear the same colors. Instead, choose shades from the same color palette. This creates a cohesive, elevated look in your photos while still keeping everyone's individual style visible.


Tip: Adding at least one neutral tone (like white, cream, beige, tan, or soft gray) helps balance the entire outfit palette.

Neutrals act as a "glue" - they soften bold colors, elevate pastels, and keep earthy tones looking cohesive.
